Mike:
When doing the initial
flight testing with my IV-P with the 1” leading edge tape installed, the
TAS at FL240 at 75% power ROP was 291kts—just what the factory specs had anticipated
without tape based upon testing on the original IV (409L). I could therefore
not detect any significant slowing effect of the 1” tape. I never did fly
without it on mine, however, so have no direct comparisons.
When putting it on
initially, I think we had about 40% above the plumb line leading edge, and
about 60% below. DL and Brad Simmons made the call on that however, so you
might want to ask them directly. I have just kept the same position on it ever
since.
Good luck.

“I have 950TT on my IV and had to repaint the leading edges
twice. In fact I have 2 Vr- one for rotation on takeoff and one for
in-flight rain- I slow to 160 KIAS for any significant rain. The purpose
of this post is that I am wondering if the tape slows the airplane down and if
I wanted to put it on for the first time how do I align the tape”
