Leading edge tape is a great and cost-effective way to keep those expensively painted wings from
needing repainting for a long time. Unfortunately, the tape does age, yellow, and chip after several years. Replacing it can be a
real pain, and little is written about the best way to do it. For anyone who has or will have to struggle with removing old
leading edge tape, I have attached a brief guide on the process. Having done this 3 times over the last ~14 years, I have learned
alot the hard way. Hopefully this will make the process much less painful for others. Read the short guide (with pictures)
at your leisure, but HERE is what you need to do TOMORROW: go straight to Home Depot, go to their paint department, and look for a
little black plastic stripping tool (looks like a little shovel) made in China under the brand name of Workforce. The
bar code number is 17064 08760. Even if you don't plan on re-doing your leading edge tape for several years, go out and get it NOW,
as you never know if it will be available down the road. I have tried many different tools over the years, and nothing comes close.
Best $3 you ever spent. Cheers. Doug Douglas W. Johnson, MD PA Susan F.
