During an engine lookaround inspection after an oil/filter change, I found
a potential serious problem. The screendoor type spring under cylinders #1
and #3 that holds the baffling tight against the outer cylinder barrels was
chaffing against the under side of the #1 cylinder oil drain line. A
sizable chunk of metal had been gouged out of the drain line. I can only
guess how much more time before a hole was rubbed through and the oil would
start leaking out. Although not a pressure line, it would cause a serious
leak and plenty of down time. I safety wired the spring down away from the
drain line as a first time fix.
I'm suggesting Lancair flyers take a look at this.
