Thank Lorn, Jim -----Original Message----- From: Lancair Mailing List [mailto:lml@lancaironline.net] On Behalf Of Lorn H Olsen Sent: Tuesday, March 23, 2010 10:45 AM To: lml@lancaironline.net Subject: [LML] Re: Lancair 235 Jim, I fly an O-320. I normally cruise at 15,000 ft at 2,350, throttle backed off 1" and 175 kts. I back the throttle off for better leaned fuel distribution. I am burning 5.5 to 6 gph lean of peak at this speed. I also have an Aero Composites carbon fiber prop that I believe adds at least 5 kts to the cruise speed. To fly at my stated 195 kts, I have to be at 6,000 to 7,000 ft wide open throttle, rich of peak and 2,500 to 2,700 rpm. I only fly at this speed once in a while to see in the plane can still do it. All other speeds and fuel burns in my matrix have come from the Lancair web page, flight reviews, pilot discussion and 12 years of observance. When a pilot has told me that he cruises at 170 or 215 kts, even if he told me the rpm & mp, 1 number is all that my mind remembered. I just thought that it would be kind of neat to have a list of approximate costs, speeds, loads and efficiencies of our Lancairs. For a real comparison we would also need: altitude, turbulence, temperature, pressure and don't forget calibrated, mp and rpm gauges. For these figures, were all aircraft operated at the same rpm & manifold pressure? Or percent horsepower? > Jim -- Lorn H.
