Keith,
It was not directed at you. It was directed at the entire community. Over the past 20+ years I have been part of several sub-communities of aviation. The one unique trait of the Lancair pilots is that they are more daring on their Lancair Mailing List regarding things they do. I feel that is part of why we all enjoy flying these planes is that they can be modified and unique. We can do our own thing... but some laws or rules of thumb should not be broken or bent. I will leave it at that.
To the Lancair pilot's credit, I believe that they are more educated (more engineers than businessmen) than other communities. This is part of what allows them to push the envelope in their designs and flying.
I wouldn't be able to sleep if I heard about someone ripping their wings off because they got into a steep spiral from a poorly executed maneuver or exceeding Vne for that manner and I didn't put on my CFI hat and say something. Everyone in the community is a "safety officer."
I only wanted to be the angel in the ear that says, "be careful out there"...
