My wife and I have done it many times, although in
a Mooney, not a Lancair.
Several suggestions:
2) Pay attention to length and condition of
runways, there are some pretty short and rough runways in the
Bahamas
3) Pay attention to where there is fuel and the
price of fuel
4) You will need to enter through a Port of
Entry.
5) I would not plan to go to Freeport or
Nassau. These Islands are very crowded. I would go to the
"Out Islands" which are much less crowded.
There are a number of companies that will arrange
the paperwork and accomodations for your trip (for a fee). We have used
Air Journey http://www.airjourney.com/ and can
recommend them.
Our favorite spot is Crooked Island Lodge at
Pittstown Point on Crooked Island, although we have not been there for a number
of years.
Have fun!

Subject: [LML] Bahamas bound
The wife really wants to go somewhere warm and sunny after
Christmas. I hate flying commercially. So I’m thinking “fly the
little Lancair to the Bahamas”. I’ve started doing some research and it
all seems feasible. Legs over open water aren’t too long…
Any suggestions of where to go, or even rental homes you’d
suggest?
Thank you!
