I flew othe= r single engine planes over there three times before my ES was completed. = A group of us fly privately to the islands annually for a scuba diving adve= nture. Truthfully=2C the flying part is what got me interested and still i= s a major part of the adventure. We have been to half a dozen islands durin= g this time. =20 It is very easy to fly to the Bahamas. We fly from Indiana=2C stop in Geor= gia for rest and gas=2C stop in Ft. Pierce for gas=2C lunch=2C paperwork an= d survival gear and then head across the water to wherever we are going. T= he introduction of eAPIS this year was the only intimidating aspect and it = proved to be a non-issue. It is relatively important to have internet acce= ss wherever you go in order to deal with all the customs=2C flight planning= and weather briefing issues. It is not absolutely critical=2C though=2C i= f you feel you want to go to a really out of the way place. =20 For first time private fliers to the Bahamas I suggest Nassau=2C Freeport o= r Marsh Harbor. Each of these has great choices for lodging and each has a= really good airport. Nassau and Freeport have approaches which makes them= a bit more attractive under certain circumstances. =20 We have never stayed in a house. Our lodging has always been hotel or cond= o. =20 =20 Paradise Island (Nassau) has great accommodations as well as family oriente= d attractions and activities. It doesn't hurt that they have a first class= casino=2C also. =20 Freeport was a pleasant surprise. We stayed in the Port Lucaya Marina area= and it was great. Clean=2C safe=2C lots of things to do. =20 We have been to Andros=2C Eleuthera=2C Long Island=2C Exuma=2C New Providen= ce=2C Grand Bahama and Abaco islands. The easiest=2C in my opinion=2C is Fr= eeport. =20 The Bahama aviation rules now match those of the U.S. so no special permits= or equipment are necessary.
