I think the pump is a great time saver but...
 
Check the ratio before any important, structural procedures.
 
Make sure the epoxy is nice and warm so it flows properly through the valves, cold epoxy can throw off the hardener side.
 
Make sure there is no play in the pivot bolt on the pump arm.  I noticed mine had worked loose and it threw off the ratio enough to make gummy cured epoxy.  This happened way after my plane was complete and I was working on some interior parts, so no real damage done.  I replaced the nut with a Nylock nut and it's stayed tight since.
