Valin,
I have Forsling exhausts on my Legacy and
love them. I had to send them back to John Forsling once to do some minor
bending to get them to fit just right, but he did a perfect job and they fit
when I got them back.
You can see them in many photos and hear
them in the numerous videos on my builders log website:

Subject: [LML] Legacy IO-550
Exhaust Pipes -- Brenner/Forsling
Hey LMLers,
We bought these
IO-550 exhaust pipes from Lancair that were designed and built for the Legacy
by Chuck Brenner and John Forsling (Forsling Aviation). The late Chuck
Brenner was working to achieve a “tuned exhaust” -- though in
talking with John Forsling he says at the relative low rpms of an IO-550 that
no benefit is noticeable. He had some dyno testing at Barrett that
confirmed that. I’ve noticed a few Legacy’s at Oshkosh that seem to have
the same exhaust system.
I’d
appreciate hearing from pilots flying with them on how they perform. For
example, the exhaust is a little longer -- does that help with heating around
the exhaust where some stock designs have blistered nearby paint? Does it
help with oily grime on the belly? Does running a heat muff off a single
cylinder exhaust pipe perform as well as off the end where three are
collected? Someone familiar with Forsling’s exhaust pipes said they
have a very nice “exhaust note” – notice a different
sound? Anything else?
Thanks,
Valin Thorn
