Ron,

Internet Explorer has some bugs with FTP downloads - it opens too many connections, and many servers start refusing them after the first few.

I recommend downloading and using the FireFox browser for everyday use as it is more secure.  Even better, install the FireFTP add-on for FireFox.  You will have trouble-free downloads.

FireFox has some other really neat add-ons like AdBlock, which will stop the browser from downloading most ads (and thus speed up your browsing).  You can then subscribe to "ad lists" which are regularly updated to shut out most of the annoying stuff.

Cheers,

Bill

Thanks for the info Bill. It’s a terrific idea.

However, I have tried for two days to download the approach plates. The Nacomatic server keeps “resetting” according to Internet Explorer. I initially tried to download the Southwest US region approach plates. After numerous attempts, I then tried to just download the California approach plates. That failed, as well (“Server Reset”).

Have you actually downloaded any of these plates? If so, any tips for how to do this? I have been using the tip on the website, i.e., “Save Target As”.

Thanks,

Ron

NACOmatic is a web site hosted by a fellow pilot who compiles all of the plates into an indexed .PDF file.

It is free, although he accepts contributions too.
