“What may have caused Kaboom at 16.5 – HYPOXIA”

In 1994 I was driving up Pike’s Peak and as I passed the 12,000’ marker I became almost instantly hypoxic and felt very whoozy and decidedly uncomfortable about going any further. There was no way I was going to attempt to turn around at that point with a drop of some hundreds of feet. At the top I was feeling like crap, yet still surprised by it because back in 1964 when I did the decompression chamber in the air force I wasn’t affected at that altitude. Refreshment in the kiosk didn’t seem to do much.

On the way down which I drove extremely sedately, as I passed the same marker I almost instantly recovered and felt back to normal.

Maybe you have different oxygen over there.

Cheers
