one down side would be that you have to hold your thumb on the button of a vernier if you are making a more than vernier change.....and that is awkward relative to just grabbing the whole handle and moving it where you want it.

From what I can tell, Lancair typically sells vernier mixture and prop control cables but sells friction lock cables for throttle.  Why not use a vernier control for the throttle?  Is there a down side to this other than cost?
