Just a bit of history. The winglets were first brought into the Lancair world by Don Goetz. He had refueled 409L somewhere and the ramp was sloped just enough that a bad selector valve allowed a large amount of fuel to spill out of the vent.

He came back to Redmond and started designing his own with foam and an eyeball. It put the vent high enough that a minor ramp slope did not vent fuel and it was cool enough to put his gold IV on the cover of several magazines.

speaking of.  has anyone ever modified a IVP winglet to make it a straight tip?
