Hi All,
A word about selecting flight instructors for insurance training.
We would like to find FAA qualified Lancair builder/owners who are experienced and highly skilled in their airplanes. And who love sharing that skill, to recommend to the insurance underwriters.
This recommendation from Wayne Marshall of a Legacy Builder/ Owner/ experienced pilot/Instructor is outstanding. He appears to have the right mix of experience and participation as a builder/ owner. I would surely like to meet and recommend him.
We want to keep the list based on geographic availablity so that travel can be reduced.
But, we would want them to be Lancair experienced (preferably a builder/ owner) and agreeable to be standardized in our approach to their particular airplane with a clean record.
Participation will NOT be on a commission/fee-basis. There will be none.
Regarding the training programs, XL insurance & the FAA have NOT dictated a regimen/syllabus.
For initial training, flight instructors are qualified to build a syllabus and lesson plans around the company flight manual for the specific airplane. This could be a mutual standardization item.
When asked for my recommendations regards currency, I suggested that it should be based upon part 61. Takeoffs and landings/night/IFR/BFR etc. etc. with the exception that it is completed in the applicable Lancair.
More later on the maintenance inspection.
