Give a try at “SnapJacks.” These are bi-directional zener diodes that  have worked well for me. Eric Jones at Perihelion Design (508-764-2072) sells them in a kit of 12; probably more than you need. Check these out on the web at www.PerihelionDesign.com, or write Eric at emjones@charter.net.

 

Big advantage that I saw is that since they are bi-directional, a reversed polarity hook up won’t destroy them, as it will for conventional diodes in some applications.
