Finally someone else has stated the obvious:  To wit:  Taking credit for engaging an insurance company to insure our aircraft who has no interest in same and is demonstrating their actual intent by establishing ever more obnoxious annual requirements does not merit hero status!!  In fact it starts us down a road of insurance company dictated pilot and builder requirements beyond the fed's standards, established by years of negotiation by EAA, AOPA, the GA community and aviation in general.  Additionally one size fits all training by ONE individual is clearly not sufficient to get the job done.  I find it all a grand disservice to the many of us who have sent mega bucks to Redmond--at least we deserve more than self serving speak on this subject.  Fortunately my LIV (no P) is eligible for liability from AVEMCO so I do not have to deal with the Bartells/HPAT/AIG cabal.  I wish the LIVP/LIVPT flyers were granted a similar choice.

I received the bad news in the form of my AIG renewal quote. It was $12,000 (4%) for $300,000 hull coverage with a $50,000 deductible (in motion).  And with the standard $1 million liability and $100,000 a seat.
I have over 30,000 hours, no accidents, no incidents, no violations, no gear ups, no claims, no nothing. Many thousands of hours in Lancair IV's.  I would be crying but for the fact I have good news.

The good news. I'm going to save a lot of money this year (I hope). Not only will I be saving $12,000 minus the liability premium, I will not be participating in the Lancair in-house inspections and HPAT check rides.

I will just have to be governed by the Federal Aviation Administration's woefully lame directives (I guess thats what AIG thinks)-- such as a part 43 Appdx D "Condition Inspection" and " instrument recurrency" and all the part 61 currency items.
So instead of being checked by Tim W., and the HPAT instructors, I will have the ability to choose whoever I see as most qualified and available to administer these checks.
(Do they really think it's practical to fly a Lancair from Florida to Oregon and wait around in motels for over a week while they do their inspection?  And then fly back home? When qualified pilot instructors and mechanics are nearby? 

Do you think this will seal my doom? Really??

Re; AIG. I believe AIG has been neutered by it's stupidity over the bonuses and their mortgage insurance. The hammering by the media and public have pummelled the leadership to a pulp. I seriously doubt if they will be able to rationally discuss a reasonable Inspection, training, and rate structure for a airplane like the Lancair for quite awhile.

You know, I don't believe I care.  When I see the numbers, the annual bonuses, and the high risk policies (on mortgages) they took on, I think the Lancair community is taking a lot of heat that it does not deserve.

You know I think it comes down to being penny wise and pound foolish.  And we're the pennies being charged way too many pounds for the foolish few.
