I’ve been the happy owner of a Lancair 235 with an O-235
L2-C for 10 years, and find the power quite adequate. The 235 aircraft is
a bit lighter (mine is 945 empty) than the 320 or 360, and with a MT electric
constant speed prop, climbs at 1300 ft/min and cruises at 195 mph (25x25, 6.5
gph). I agree that with a fixed pitch prop, takeoff run, especially at
higher density altitudes is a concern. I guess if you are comparing to a
320 or 360, the performance is poor, but if you’re comparing to almost
anything else in the GA fleet, it’s great. I would not suggest
putting a 235 engine into a heavier 320 or 260 airframe however. The 235
will be more restricted in terms of baggage and passenger weight. I weigh
in at 170, and I’m fine with passengers up to 215.
