Bill,

You are right on the benefits.  Since the wheel is located next to the throttle hand, it is not a problem with moving your hand between the throttle and the trim wheel as they are inherently related in a Lancair.  Remember, however, that the connection is not quite mechanical but driven by spring pressures - easy enough to override and providing a light touch for minor pitch manual adjustments.  Anyway, I sent Larry some additional info.

I saw one installed in a 320(?) and thought it was a very nice system. A while ago there was a thread about runaway trim and that got me thinking. I like the idea of a positive mechanical connection as opposed to pushing a button and waiting for the response. Eliminating the trim tab and the weight of the servo would reduce the weight of the elevator, eliminate tab hinge wear, and might require less counterweight. OTOH I can imagine that being able to adjust trim by pushing a button on the stick would be very convenient.

What do those who have the system think of it? Has anyone installed such a system on a IV? Thanks-  Bill Wade

Subject: [LML] Riechal Trim Wheel

A while ago I was hunting a Riechal Trim wheel (system) for a friend with whom I am building.  We had a lead from a guy in South Africa.  After many promises the unit never materialized.  Now we need it!  If anyone has one of Dick Riechal's trim systems I'd like to talk.  If it's for sale let me know.  If not, I'd love to borrow it and reverse engineer my own.

Your tips would be appreciated on or off list.

PS:  I can't state emphatically enough how much the list has meant to me over the years.  I appreciate builder and flight tips.  I agree that there are many discussions irrelevant to me.  Or stated another way, flight safety overkill.  Remember you can't be too safe!  Even in bubble wrap in a closet.  Stuff could happen....... Insurance....  Programming software in my $$ box.....  Stuff like this, I just hit the delete key.  It's the verbal attacks that I would be delighted to see censured.
