I know some will say things like...what's your life worth, blah blah. But like a lot of guys, I have a day job, and think I'm incredibly lucky to have such a great airplane which is probably a stretch for my budget. If I've got an extra $1000, I'd rather plan on flying conservatively and making smart decisions based on my experience...and put the $1000 on a set of GAMI injectors. I'm an instrument rated pilot, but I fly 99% VFR. I keep current on instruments but I would never purposefully launch into hard IMC. So for guys like me, cost is a primary factor in the training I do. I train with a local instructor who is a a good stick and rudder guy, good instrument instructor, but has never been in a Lancair before he flew with me. He gets $40 per hour. That's probably not the ideal, but it is realistic and a lot better than nothing which is the alternative if the only choice is HPAT. Is it > accessability/convenience to training? > > I don't feel that HPAT is doing the job that Joe/Lancair intended and has a > monopoly in the training arena with Lancair and the insurance companies....
