The Lycoming performance charts show that the 360 can
make 100 hp at a lower rpm and lower fuel flow than the 320.
A few weeks ago I ran the
360 in the
Fuelventure competition at Meadowlake near Colorado
Springs. I came in fourth overall after three
Variez’s. it did 37.8 mpg around a triangular course of
378
miles at 168 mph (4.44 gph).
I flew at about
140-150
mph indicated and adjusted altitude with power.
The power setting in level flight was around 16.5” at 1500 rpm, which is well
off the chart.
It is a stock 360 A1A with mags and
carb turning the old 2 blade Hartzel.
They are planning on taking it to
Copper
State fly in. I highly
recommend it, they are a good bunch of guys engaged in friendly
competition.
