The instruction manual I got from Lightspeed for installing the Lightspeed Plasma III on my Legacy's IO-550 engine says to remove the existing seal retainer and use Lightspeed's mounting bracket instead.  That's what I did and it's working fine.  Don't forget to test the clearance between the sensors and the magnets with the crankshaft pulled forward and pushed in. 

 

By the way, the instruction manual also says to check the timing with a timing light before the first flight.  I did, and I checked it again at the annual condition inspection, but I'm not sure everyone does.  Standing so close to the moving propeller isn't for everyone.
