So, being ignorant of the possibilities, I elected to do what might be considered "overkill". Each of my tanks are filled with the expanded aluminum foil "Explosafe". All of the material is run through and through with 20 ga. aluminum wires, firmly tied together where they cross. They are then connected to each filler cap via a screw and wire lug, and then clamped to the aluminum fuel lines. External to each tank, a wire is clamped to the fuel lines and are connected to system ground - which includes the engine. When I get ready to fuel my Lancair, I clip the fuel island ground line to my exhaust pipe, thereby insuring that the interior of all tanks are grounded through the Explosafe, including the filler cap rings. After 500+ hours I have not had a problem (assuming I might have had one without all the fuss). I understand that there has been some rumors that Explosafe can harbor condensed water in the interstices of the expanded foil, but I have also not seen any evidence of that, either.
