Help! I'm almost ready to attach my stub wing skins. They fit rather
tight when sliding them on. Can anyone suggest how I can put them in
place and move them into proper position without scraping off the micro,
micro/flox or structural adhesive that is placed on the bonding
surfaces? Also, the lower aft edge of the skin has a poor fit to the
lower main spar joggle. We can't use clecos, rivets or screws here, and
it would take enormous clamps to pull it place, so what did you people
do here? Charles Keller
[It'll be interesting to hear how others fought the battle of installing
the skins without removing the adhesives... I would suggest using tapered
shims cut into 3/8-1/2" wide pieces from cedar shakes along the bottom
sparcap, then removing them once the skin has been positioned. As far as
clamping goes, cut some pieces of 1x4 the length of the bonding areas
and use them to spread the load of the 'clamps' along the spar caps. Cut
other pieces to reach from the ceiling and floor to act as the clamps
and capture the skins between them. This worked when I was fitting mine,
although I've yet to go through the actual bonding process. <Marv> ]
