More comments on Ric Argente's carb air box. Van claims the K&N Filter
actually added manifold pressure to their air box design when they tested it
without a filter. I forget the exact amount but I recall it being about 10
HP on a O 360. This was stated in his OSH Forum a few years back and I
recall his suprise at the gain. The RV airbox is very simple, easy to
service and low in height but wide to provide volume around the filter.
Another design using a cone shaped K&N filter mounted facing forward on a
forward facing FI servo is very clean and is used on several very fast RVs.
If you go by a automotive speed shop they should have a K&N Catalog with
photos and dimensions of a very large variety of filters. K&N's claim is
the turbulence is reduced by their filters and adds HP which Vans test
verifies. Steve Colwell
