The landing was uneventful (except for the being on a freeway part). They towed the airplane off of the interstate, removed the wings, and then put the airplane on a trailor and towed it back to CRQ (Palomar Airport in Carlsbad, CA). I could see several news helicopters out my office windows covering the event. The local news didn't say much more than the landing was caused by engine problems. The stories that I saw only mentioned the fact that it was a homebuilt and didn't focus that aspect. There was another emergency landing the next day of a PA28-140 on a beach just north of here (also successful) that eclipsed the IV story.
