For those who are flying other aircraft preparing, a Piper
Arrow (Hershey bar wing) makes a great L-IV emergency trainer. A IV with flat
pitch and a windmilling prop will go downhill at about 1,600 fpm at 100 knots.
That's easy to do in the Arrow, with gear and flaps out at idle. Enter a high
key at 3,000 AGL and dump the throttle, gear and flaps. Then ride it down. A 30
degree bank will put you on the numbers.
