Peter: That multi-blade, more drag thingy is a fallacy. A
well-designed three or four blade prop has no more drag than does a two blade.
But it needs to have streamlined root sections, not draggy round ones. The three
and four blade props I designed for the Reno Biplane racers performed just as
predicted, and the more blades, the more the diameter can be reduced to decrease
the tip loss, and the better the static and takeoff
performance.
