I've been using SPOT for a couple of months now. I hike and cross-country ski, so for me, it has value other than flying. It works as advertised. I paid the extra $50 for the tracking feature. It's proven to be a good tool.
I don't know how good they are on a "911" flash, but I added instructions to call the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and start an immediate search if they ever get my 911.
