I was planning on just leaving them both in and using the second one as a backup connected to the power and mic switches etc. with a 6 pole switch. perhaps some of the higher time pilots out there could enlighten on the proper setup. thanks Scott [Scott, I'm not an IRF pilot but I do know that even when flying VFR through the complex airspaces we so often encounter travelling cross country today, having the ability to pre-load several frequencies and flip-flop them between multiple radios is usually a godsend. Granted, during the enroute phase most communications are happening on a single frequency, and given the multi-frequency memory capabilities of most modern comm radios, the second comm in the stack will seem like little more than an added parcel that made its way from the baggage compartment to the panel. But when you consider the number of contacts you need to make when transitioning from the enroute phase to the approach phase, all of a sudden having one radio with only two frequencies avilable can turn into a Chinese firedrill. Let's see, there's FSS flight following, ATIS, approach control, the tower, ground control to be ready for, maybe a unicom frequency to find out where you're going to park... I'm pretty sure I even missed something . Personally, I think having 2 comms in the stack and the ability to switch between them is more than a mere convenience. ] >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LML website: http://www.olsusa.com/Users/Mkaye/maillist.html Builders' Bookstore: http://www.buildersbooks.com/lancair Please send your photos and drawings to marvkaye@olsusa.com. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
