This failure problem is for real on the TSIO550B2B. Mine failed in the
right mag at 300hrs (aaafter 20yrs of flying, I finally realize why those
ground run-ups prior to takeoff are so important). Local shop tested the
unit and said they could not localize the problem, and wanted $700 for a
whole new mag, but an electronics friend of mine troubleshot the thing and
found that it was indeed the capacitor. $65 later I was flying fine behind
the same mag with a new capacitor.v

[I'm pleased to see that passing along that SB notice was actually pertinent
to you IV fliers out there. I'll continue my vigil for tidbits like this
from other sources and do my best to include them here whenever I spot
likely candidates. <Marv> ]
