I have a 24v system with one battery.  I have decided to install the RDD (Kelly Aerospace) anti-ice system, which puts a second alternator at the right rear of the engine, where the battery is now.  I was looking at using 2 each 12 volt batteries, probably Odyssey 625's, rather than a single 24 volt.  It looks like they will be easier to fit in the cockpit.  It also seems that this would let me use 12v accessories, as long as they did not draw much, like a CD player, or if they were balanced on two sides, like a set of seat heaters.  You could, in a pinch, unhook both batteries, and put them on a standard charger individually.  Finally, if one cell goes bad, you can replace one unit.  Any thoughts?
