Electric motors for gear retraction were provided for the Legend turboprop kit  that I helped a friend build. All three gear had drive motors, almost all Legends now flying have been converted to hydraulic systems like our Lancairs. The major reason for the conversion was the complexity and poor performance of the secondary system to be used if a motor or the electrical system failed. Cables, pulleys, pins needed to be operated to allow the gear to free fall and these mechanical devices tended to get out of adjustment and often required more pull than the operator could provide. Lancair's early 235's had such a mechanical system to operate the gear and doors, everybody I know went with the more expensive hydraulic system.
