Great article in Aviation Consumer comparing the Mooney Acclaim with the
Columbia 400 (and to a minor level with the Cirrus family). A few
numbers jump out, and these are as-tested not as-touted. Neither test
plane was de-iced.
20k ft rich: Acclaim 226 kt, 400 212 kt
20k ft lean: Acclaim 218 kt, 400 211 kt
Econ cruise 17.5k ft, 4 seats filled, range: Acclaim 335 nm, 400 322 nm
Sure makes the Super ES look like a bargain. The article also stated
that if either plane were pressurized that they could sell all they
could make. Or folks could just buy an ES-P and spend the money saved
on fuel!
