I went with Barrett and was very happy with their service, they did what they said, when they said they would.  They also let me watch final assembly and dyno testing.

Engine hasn't been run on the plane yet so can't tell you about other aspects but I am sure they will be good.

The other strong contender is a factory Continental engine.

Hello everyone!

I am a new Lancair Legacy builder, my  kit number 251.  I am planning to build this kit within one year and I’m wanting to learn from every once experiences.  I have two questions What engine builder would you go with and why?

I am looking for an IO-550 that is dependable and has all the performance.

Performance engines?  Which I hear has a nice product but I hear this problems with delivery times.

Barrett engines? I hear is more conservative in their building and may be more dependable.

Other?

Thank you for your input.
