That would work until the crossover switch fails. Your switch now becomes a source of single point failure. Considering the fact that there is a strong indication that your present problems are wiring related, adding more wiring is not the best path to be heading down.
There are other issues as well:
* I am not sure if the software is going to just start talking in a different language if the Pinpoint suddenly gets replaced by Corssbow or vice versa. * The device that you are not monitoring is not getting any aiding information.
* You have no idea if the device you are not monitoring is actually working, when was the last time it actually worked, if it has intermittent failure problems and if so, how frequently it fails.
