Interesting problem here. Just for a reference point, I'm flying a very
early 235 with the original single piston brakes and I don't have any
complaints other than, if I really get on them (not often necessary), I will
flat a tire real quick! Took me a couple sets of tires to learn this lesson.
After replacing tires a couple of times because of lock-ups resulting in an
unwanted experiment on how deep the treads go, I stopped being mister nice
guy and trying to turn off at the first exit. Sure I occasionally get an
insult from the tower informing me that I've got a Baron, or some such on my
tail (cleared to land, the runway's mine until I exit so it's the
controller's error). Never takes more than 5 or 10 seconds more and my
brakes last and last - and so do my tires.
My flap control is way separated from the gear switch so I feel confident in
going into reflex just after touch-down which helps get the weight on the
wheels to improve braking if needed. Only bother to do this when arriving at
a short field where braking (some) may be required.
