Incidentally, I have a ICOM unit about 5-6 years old. King makes a neat little splitter (I think it is supplied with their hand-held unit) that I use. It's inserted into one of your com antenna feeders via BNC connectors and has a BNC connector for connecting the hand-held antenna. The thing is only about 3/4 x 3/4 x 11/2 inches and has mounting provisions on it. It can be mounted so that only the connector you need to get at is visible and if the need ever arises to use the hand-held, it's a simple matter of plugging in the short RG58 cable. I also utilize the provisions to plug in a head set into my hand-held. What with the cockhouse noise (love it!) in the Lancair two-seater, I think it'd be hard as he-- to hear the ground without this feature - of course, I can't hear my wife all that well either, even when she's sitting right next to me in the car and telling me where to turn, that I'm going too fast, etc. so the head-set hook-up is up to you.
