Erik,
I have an IO-540 in my ES and from
what I know, 220 isn't that unusual an oil temp in the climb. On
summer days, my cruise oil temps are about what you experienced on your trip -
210-215 unless I'm down lower at a higher indicated airspeed (which puts more
air across the oil cooler). Unless Continental recommends lower
numbers, your engine sounds OK to me.
