I’ll second Chuck’s experience with TruTrak. I bought an “installation kit” from them in 1999 when they first opened for business. I then decided to use an integrated BlueMountain system and called them to advise that I wouldn’t be buying the AP controller itself. Jim Yonkin talked to me for a bit, told me that he was disappointed to lose me as a customer, but that I might consider holding on to the stuff I’d already bought, at least until I got my BM system working. Perhaps the best advice I’ve gotten from a vendor. My building partner’s BM system has not worked well for him, so I went back to the original plan of Chelton/TruTrak. Sent the servos back to TruTrak for upgrade. Quick and efficient. Then ordered the VGSVII autopilot and it came promptly last year. I just called to see if there were any changes/updates as I’m almost finished with my panel and Andrew Barker advised that I should send the AP controller back for a software upgrade; then promptly sent me an RMA number and confirmed my mailing address—I had moved since the original purchase. I have not flown this system/my airplane yet, but over a period of seven years, I could not have been more pleased with TruTrak. Suggest you talk to Andrew or Jim Yonkin if you’re not getting the service you expect. They are up-front people.

Jim,

Everyone's experience will vary (EEWV?).  I just had my TT DFII upgraded to VSGV.  They handled it promptly, knew who I was, they confirmed the return address and turned the unit around the next day and sent it back Next Day (paid for out of their upgrade fee).  I know that I'm "special", but I'm not THAT special, so I attribute it to a pretty consistent interface experience with TT.  Maybe you caught them on a (couple) bad days?

Since the Legacy has such a small panel,  after cramming 2 Chelton screens and the JPI EDM930 into it, there simply isn't room left over for 3-1/2" backup instruments.  I've installed a 2-1/4" airspeed from UMA, custom marked for the Legacy, and the Winter 2-1/4" altimeter, but I still have a 2-1/4" hole for attitude and heading.  Right after Oshkosh last year I ordered the 2-1/4" ADI from TruTrak, based on their estimated shipping date of around the first of the year.  Maybe my mistake was in not asking "which year?"

Since last August I've talked to them many times.  Each time I call, it's as if I have never talked to them before.  They can never find any record of me, my name, my address, my credit card info, or of the fact that I've ordered something from them.  This in spite of having done business with them since '96.  Each time I call and give them the information all over again, I'm told some new, later estimated delivery for the 2-1/4" ADI.  The latest is that it will be late June, possibly July, possibly August.  Maybe.

I finally decided to have them at least send me the backup battery so I could that located and wires run.  Same deal.  Had to call three different times over several weeks.  Each time it was day one, right out of the egg.  Never heard of me, no record of my order.

Dunno what's going on with TruTrak, but I can't imagine they'll keep any customers if my experience is in any way typical.
