no clue. but you might
learn something by disconnecting the hot side and solidly stopping up that port
to the mixer box. Possible outcomes:
a) thwap goes away. something that
depends on hot-side pressure.
b) pressure drop with no temp change after the
thwap. something in the box
c) no change. something in the cool side outside
the box.
Also, I couldn't tell from your
description if you verified the box end of the cable doesn't move.
Maybe disconnecting the cable completely and securing the selector on the box
would tell you something.
