HI Chris,

Acceptable filesizes can be a little fuzzy, although dealing with photos is easier than MS Word docs or pdf files.  What I mean is that photo files are much easier to shrink to reasonable levels than most other doc types.  The guideline that I pretty much go by is 100k upper limit for photo files, but depending on my mood, how much is going on in my life, the phase of the moon, what music is playing, and other less concrete factors, I may modify that limit up or down by as much as 15-20%.  If someone attaches several photos to an email that are each 150k or more it's a pretty sure bet that I'm going to purloin them and reduce their size before sending them along.  OTOH, an email with one or two photos that are 90-110 k each may get a pass and I just let them go through.  The latter was the case with your recent email regarding your fuel vents... those files were both about 112-115 kb each and I simply approved the post and didn't bother resizing them.  Most times, however, my comfort level actually starts to get pushed when photos exceed about 60-70k, especially if the post has multiple attachments.  Generally photos that I resize typically come in somwhere from 40-60k, depending on their complexity.  Awhile back I used to keep photo sizes at 640x480, as they were pretty compact, transferred quickly and didn't take up a lot of storage space.  Now, however, (probably for the last year or so) I've upped that to the next level and use 800x600, as most folks have high-speed internet service, monitor resolutions are way up, and 100+GB hard drives are fairly typical, even on laptops.  If you want to be safe, keep photos 800x600 or smaller, filesizes in the 50k area and your posts will go through pretty much unhindered.

Once again, IrfanVIew is my software of choice for handling these kinds of tasks.  I hope this helps.

Marv,
What is the upper limit you like to see on attachments? I sent in two that
were about 100k and it looks like they got diverted.
