I currently have a matter where a gent did not comply with a prop AD for years and it eventually failed in flight.
Mark, Hamid and Jeff,

Go to:

For ADs, Enter your prop designation.  If the following shows up,

AD 2006-18-15   This AD requires initial and repetitive eddy current inspections (ECI) of the front cylinder half of the propeller hub for cracks and removing cracked hubs from service before further flight. In addition, this AD allows installation of an improved design propeller hub (suffix SN ''A'' or ''B'') as terminating action to the repetitive ECI. This AD results from a report of a propeller blade separating from a propeller hub. We are issuing this AD to prevent failure of the propeller hub causing blade separation and subsequent loss of airplane control.

1. Look at your propeller log book.
2. Check the hub Serial No.
3. If it ends in A or B, ignore the ECI warning.
4. If not, take off your shiny spinner and look for the serial number on the hub.  If it ends in A or B, find out why your log book doesn't match the hub.  Also, ignore the ECI warning with prejudice.
5. If #3 and #4 don't apply, get a copy of the AD and any referenced Hartzell SB.  Act on it.
6. Even if you don't think you need it, apply Aeroshell #6 greasy grease as outlined in your Hartzell prop log/service handbook.

If Hartzell knows you have one of their props, they are very good at sending you updates for the appropriate prop manual and any new service information.  If they don't know about you and your Hartzell prop, contact them...  I am sure their lawyers will be happy to send you the correct prop manual.

Information is power (literally).

PS: This calming information is free and worth every penny paid.  Your experimental airplane is risky and, when flown by yourself, it is even more risky.  Each person must assume the risk for his/her own actions or inactions.  In other words, no one is to blame but yourself and any inherent Type-A personality imperfections that are assigned to you by your psychiatrist are your's alone.  If any, deal with them - the stick is in your hand.
