The TruTrak auto pitch trim has a fail safe mechanism built into the
actuator rod. However, on the ES the actuator rod is too short for the
fail safe mechanism (if you install the servo in the standard place). I
would have to mount the servo in another place that allows for a longer actuator
rod or go without the fail safe mechanism.
Still scratching my head about what to do. I really don't like the
idea of disconnecting the fail safe mechanism.
I've been flying for 3 years with manual trim and it's not that big of a
deal, a little tap from time to time. I'm guessing that it would be most
valuable in a GPS approach where you're stepping down, slowing down, dropping
flaps and gear, etc. while flying both the lateral and vertical guidance with
the autopilot, one less thing to do.
