With respect to the Freeflight 1101:

Talked with a knowledgeable person at Sun n Fun, according to him:

1)  Freeflight 1101 (despite what D2 portrayed) is definitely not intended for IFR use.  (D2 knew this)
2)  Freeflight is willing to swap out 1101 for 1201 for about $2,500 for a limited time
3)  1201 will probably be upgradeable to gamma 3 (precision approach) within the next year or so

Can anybody confirm this?

If this is so, it would seem to me to make sense to make the swap.

According to Chelton's wiring diagrams RS232 output from the Freeflight 1101 is on pin 8.  Looking at the Freeflight documentation it shows two RS232 outputs; TX1 on pin 8 and TX2 on pin 7.  Freeflight's diagram of a typical installation shows connecting to TX2 on pin 7.  I called Freeflight and their tech support said to use pin 7 (TX2).  They said TX1, pin 8, is a maintenance port and does not output data in normal operation.

For those of you with working Chelton/Freeflight installations, which Freeflight connector pin are you using for RS232 output?
