Rob, Ok... I'm not trying to be difficult. I am trying to interject a bit of reality into the "Joy of Diesel". You really didn't answer my question about the size of the intercooler for the SMA 230 Hp diesel intercooler. So let me go ahead and give you a "reality check" on that issue. The air to air heat exchanger is about the size of a standard mid sized car radiator. A little thicker and not quite as wide and high. But if you think of a car radiator executed in aluminum - - then you will get the picture. It is a monster. I can't imagine the drag that is associated with that thing. Along with the cooling drag for the air cooled diesel cylinder heads on the SMA - - and the oil cooler drag. Why is it THAT big ? Because they need to get a LOT of cooling done for the diesel at altitude where the boost pressure ratio is rather extreme and the temperature rise is likely in the 400 d F range (yes, induction temperatures up in that range - - before the intercooler.) Regards, George
