I got this idea from a Lancair pilot a few years ago at Oshkosh. 
 
I used a Comant CI-193 Glideslope antenna.  It's only about 14" wide and easy to mount.  It's designed just for internal mounting without a ground plane so I installed it in the leading edge of the wing stub D section.  It's just outside of the prop arc.
 
I heard of many problems in other locations but this is what I did and it works great for me.
 
Took about 5 minutes to install.
