Hey guys, did any of you read Marv's post last week? Eleven posts out of
twenty one were reposted by Marv in the last 24 hours. Seems like the problem
got worse instead of better. Go back to his post from last week if you don't
understand why his name is at the top of your post.

Marv, just my thoughts; if you reject the post instead of reposting, I bet
the problem would go away real fast. Thanks for all your work with the LML.
It is unfortunate that so many that submit to the LML don't consider the
value of your time.

[Thanks, Tom, but in all fairness, the reason my name showed up at the top of a number of those posts is because I embedded replies at the bottom, eliminating the need for additional new messages from me (like on this one <g>).  A few of the posts you mentioned had some grammatical & spelling errors which I chose to straighten out, (didn't get them all, but I tried) and the others, well, yes, there were several with excessive quotebacks.  I fixed 'em.  BTW, I also try to remove things like virus advices and AOL/Yahoo/MSN advertisements that get embedded at the bottom of folks' posts without their knowledge... they have no control over those.  So those kinds of edits also enter into the picture.

I know what the problem is, mentioned it in a message to one of our 'kin' in the wee small hours this AM.... as our computers have gotten faster and faster and our available time has grown more precious, we all want to get things done as quickly as possible.  It's just a fact of life.  Our email programs have become better at what they do and we use them to our greatest advantage.   We open our reply editor and it automatically sucks the entire subject message into it, we simply add our reply to the top.  If that reply is long enough, the subject message has disappeared into the bottom of the editor screen.   Out of sight, out of mind.  Now that we've reached the final element of our message, the signature, we simply hit the send button out of habit, it's what we do every time we compose an email. Old habits are hard to break.

One of the reasons I tend to fix things is because the email client that I use allows me to see the details of the posts I'm approving in the queue.... it includes the sender's name, the subject, the size of the message and when it was received.  If I have a string of them, the one that says 75kb in the size column sticks out from the others that say 2kb or 4kb, etc.  If that 75kb post is a reply I try to truncate it to help speed things up... if I can remove 70kb from it I will reduce the outbound bandwidth from Rob's servers by 56 megabytes (70kb X ~800 subscribers) and eliminate the duplication of that same 70kb on his storage system.  If I can do that a couple times a day it will add up to big savings all around over the course of time.  Remember, also, that this is what I do and have been doing for a long time, so much of this has become routine for me.

Anyway, thanks for mentioning it, but truth be told, things have improved dramatically since my last quoteback missive, and I do appreciate the help.  Don't worry, folks who fail to clean things up receive subtle reminders from me, I assure you <g>.  I would be cutting my nose off to spite my face if I were simply to reject errant posts... it's quicker to fix them than reject them... I'd add another email to the stream to let them know, and possibly lose the post totally if they decide it's simply not worth the effort.  So. let's keep up the good work and I'll try to do the same.  Thanks again.
