Why do I want to bitch? I’ll
tell you. This pilot made a very poor decision and then backed it up with
poor pilotage. I often call people like that an idiot, but I’ll
tone it down because I don’t know him. What I do KNOW, is that
incidents like this rarely, if ever, costs only him.
Let’s see… was there:
- Search
and rescue?
- An insurance
claim?
- Bad
publicity for GA?
Reality is that our taxes paid the S&R
(if there was any). Insurance claims result in higher premiums for Cirrus
and GA in general – there is a definite trickle-down effect. And
bad publicity results in more restrictive regulations, from which all GA
suffers, and AOPA and the ilk have to lobby ($$$) to try to control.
So yes, this bozo’s incident
probably hit my pocketbook. Because it negatively impacts me, I don’t
appreciate it – actually, I resent it. I’ve made poor
decisions in my past, and I am certain to make poor decisions again in the
future. But I hope my friends will let me know that what I am about to do
is stupid, and that I should reconsider. If I’ve already “committed
the crime” I hope they won’t glorify my stupidity with a rationalization
about how I made some aspect of it better.

No,
surviving anyone can mess up and if he messed up having fun so be it, I bet
everyone in there was having fun and they are old enough to know the danger. It
did not cost us or our taxes so why does anyone want to bitch, his money and
his mistake
