The way it works is that you select it to ON and then if you want to AUTO, most of the installs will probably be only manual control, on the current turbo prop aircraft using our system you manually  select mode Lo or mode Hi, mode Lo is  45 seconds on element A , 45 sec on B and 90 sec OFF, then on mode Hi  is 90 sec on A and 90 sec on B no OFF period.
( hi is for icing below - 16 Deg C.) this is for a four blade prop on a high performance single turboprop . ( current draw is 25 Amp initially and goes down to about 23-24 depending on the heat cycle. The annunciator light will confirm a switch over from element A to B and Hi or Lo cycle.
By connecting your laptop via serial connection you can program the settings and also do a system diagnostic check etc.

Maurits,
You may want to rethink the auto function.  Turning the unit on referencing only temp. will cause the prop heat to actuated when icing condition do not exist (most of the time).  This will cause a premature failure of the heating elements.  For the system to be effective it must first detect ice or high relative humidly.
