We'd all be better off getting
rid of all flared tube fittings, and changing over to Swagelok fittings.
The Swagelok system makes for a stronger join, since the tube end does not
have to be stretched and bent, and the fittings are much easier to
tighten consistently. Their fittings are available in stainless, brass,
aluminum, nylon, and other materials, are available almost anywhere, and are
widely used in the aerospace industry as well as other critical fluid
applications. The only downside is that they don't make some kinds
of bulkhead fittings. They do make bulkhead unions, but not bulkhead
tees or 45's.
For pitot/static systems, I use nylon
Swagelok fittings and vinyl tubing from Clippard Instrument Company, with a
brass insert inside the tubing (Swagelok #B-405-2 or A-405-2).
